internet ‘game’ leads to model for spread of infectious disease

i saw this linked on fark and knew what it was immediately… where’s george is one of those websites that i rarely hear about anymore [ even though it's still going strong ] but was one of the first sites that really got me interested in mapping and tracking information. it’s fun and, apparently, has some value for research in the scientific realm.
